Sarah May
Fashion Futures is a course I designed and led for students at BSIX college in Hackney, London. The course was part of LCF's outreach. Sep 2021- April 2022 and Sep 2022 - November 2022.

The course explored fashion cultures and the language of clothing to express identity, community, and challenge injustice. Students senses were activated to produce instinctive fashion experiments and they were asked to consider the impact of ecological thinking on the fashion world and materials of our everyday lives. The course aims were to; provide tools to amplify voices and to stimulate rather than instruct, to expand fashion's ability to delight, connect, and identify individual and collective values, to cultivate local identities, themes and symbols that represent community, to engage with local environments and re frame the relationship with the more than human world, and to use fashion as a drive for social change and purpose.

I follow an Earth Logic pedagogy.

Head of Enrichment Lucy Capes says of the course " Sarah has had a direct impact on a number of young people's hopes, mental health, careers and decision making. Several students had never had access to the arts before Fashion Futures. Her work means a great deal to us here at BSix, both students and colleagues alike"

The students made a wonderful zine at the end of the course and all gained certificates of "graduation"!
